"Natalie, There is no Window!" - A Lesson in Perspective and Freedom

"When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." Viktor E. Frankl

It's funny how many life lessons can unfold on a routine flight. I travel a lot, I love going new places and enjoying new experiences. Although I don't run on a rigid schedule, I do appreciate a well researched itinerary. Picture this: you've booked a flight to Miami, you picked a window seat on the website, extra leg room of course, you are ready to enjoy the view. You board the plane, find your seat, and guess what? There's no window on this row! Just a stretch of beige fuselage where a window should be. Talk about a surprise to your plans!

Let's back up because this story isn't really about me, I immediately had a flashback to a flight I took not too long ago. This story is more about a little girl named Natalie. I don't know her or even her parents, I was just on the same flight. She was maybe six years old and just like I, she also had her heart set on a window seat. The only difference is her excitement turned into a full-blown meltdown when she realized her row also had no window. Her disappointment echoed through the cabin as she screamed, "I want a window!" Meanwhile, her panicked mom tried to reason with her, repeating, "Natalie, there is no window!"

I honestly thought they were going to be forced from the plane, that's the level of meltdown that we were witnessing. I was in the row next to the flight attendant's jump seat and couldn't help out. But a few passengers came to the rescue, swapping their seats to offer Natalie the much-desired window. Crisis averted, right? Keep reading.....

Life is full of curveballs, and sometimes no matter how much you plan, the results may not match your expectations. We can make the best plans, but things don't always pan out the way we expect. And I'm not just talking about airplanes and missing windows. We all face unexpected hurdles in life – missed opportunities, lost belongings, unforeseen expenses, and so on.

But here's the thing: the journey to freedom is all about shifting your perspective when plans go awry. Not allowing the unexpected to ruin your day, your trip, or your life. These hiccups? Maybe they're not roadblocks, but detours leading you to a bigger plan or an important lesson.

And here's the funny part about Natalie's story: once she got her window seat, she closed the window shade and slept through the entire flight. Makes you think, doesn't it? Are you having a meltdown over things that don't matter? There's a big different between wants and needs.

It's easy to let minor glitches snowball into major issues, if we lose sight of our goals and the bigger picture. What if we could shift our perspective and see these moments not as disruptions but as part of the bigger plan?

In your journey towards freedom, remember: it's not just about making a plan. It's about embracing the unexpected, keeping your cool when plans inevitably deviate, and maybe, just maybe, realizing that not getting what you planned for is the plan.

The next time life denies you a window, try to remember, it's not about the missing view. It's about your power to shift perspective, stay adaptable, and keep moving forward. That's the real playbook to freedom. And perhaps, like Natalie, we might discover that what we thought we wanted isn't what we needed after all, maybe we all just need a little nap!

Are you ready to step into a journey where every unexpected turn could be an adventure, every curveball a lesson, and every no-window seat an opportunity to see things differently? The ultimate playbook to freedom starts with you.

Tips for Adjusting Your Perspective:

  1. Don't panic: Life is full of surprises, and not all of them are pleasant. Breathe, stay calm, and remember - it's not the end of the world.

  2. Stay positive: Look for the silver lining, even when things don't go your way. There's always something good to be found.

  3. Be adaptable: Flexibility is key when plans fall apart. Be ready to adjust your sails as necessary.

  4. Keep dreaming: One setback doesn't mean the end of your journey. Keep your goals in sight and don't stop moving forward.

The power to shift your perspective lies within you. So, when life throws you a curveball, don't let it bring you down. Instead, choose to see it as an opportunity for growth and learning. That's the ultimate playbook to freedom.
