Snap Out of it: Rewriting the Rules of Belief

"The only thing standing between you and your goal is the story you keep telling yourself as to why you can't achieve it." - Jim Rohn

Today I’m diving into a strange topic, but for me it’s as real as it gets – snapping with your right hand. I know this sounds crazy. But just hear me out, there's a story behind this that's not just about snapping; it's about breaking free from the BS beliefs that hold us back.

Flashback to a small-town elementary classroom in Alabama in the '80s.Although I don't remember the teacher's name I can still picture her. She tells her class (your truly being one of the students): "You can only snap with your left hand." Seriously, as I look back on this now: What the actual $#%!? Well let me tell you, even when I was a little boy, the realization hits me that it's a load of crap. But, initially I believed her, young minds are influenced easily, I was told I'm going to school to learn, so the authority of the Teacher was powerful. But here's the kicker – that belief still lingers a tiny bit all these years later, like a ghost from the past impacting my right-handed snaps today.

Now, I know what you're thinking – "Why should I care about this guy snapping with his right hand?" It's a fair point. The reason you should care is you still have some silly beliefs you are making true. It's not just about the snap; it's about the beliefs we let dictate our lives and we make part of our story. We all carry some baggage – beliefs that aren’t doing us any favors, handed down by others or picked up to fit in. They're like invisible chains, holding us back.

So, what's the playbook move here? It's about realizing that your beliefs are as fluid as your favorite mixtape. Wait, do you even know what a mix tape is? Google if you need to. You have the power to remix that soundtrack, my friend. Whether it's questioning the status quo or ditching beliefs that aren’t serving you, it starts with a mindset shift. You can re-write your story, and it's okay to let go of past beliefs that do not serve you anymore. Your identity is not locked inside a prison forever. You are not just your beliefs or the story you have created.

Guard your beliefs like your prized possessions– not by hiding them in a corner but by flexing them, questioning them, and ditching the ones that aren’t cutting it. Let go of the ones you are holding out of guilt or obligation.  Remember, every belief you hold is a choice. Choose the ones that light your fire, toss out the ones holding you back, and let the world know you're here to play big and play true. Don't make excuses why you can't, you are just proving my point even more.

That’s your playbook to freedom!  So, snap with both hands – loud, proud, and unapologetically. Whatever silly belief you have, get rid of it and declare that you're done playing small.
